Best free family St. Patricks Day events in Cleveland and Akron 2017

St. Patrick’s Day, with its parties and green beer, isn’t known for being the most family-friendly holiday. That doesn’t mean families can’t have plenty of fun and do it without spending any money, either. Whether it’s a parade or free crafts, Cleveland has some great free events for people of all ages to enjoy and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Clover Hunt

Throughout the entire month of March, head to the CanalWay Center for the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation’s Hunt of the Month highlighting clovers. Try to find all 20!

Rockefeller Gardens – 750 E 88th St., Cleveland, OH 44108

Cleveland’s Rockefeller Gardens include many cultural gardens, including an Irish garden dedicated in 1939 with sandstone paths arranged to resemble a Celtic cross. The garden includes Irish juniper, yew, white lilac, hawthorn, lavender, wisteria, shamrocks, cowslips, Irish blackthorn, Shannon roses, Killarney roses and the "Last Rose of Summer" species. Although they have no specific events honoring St. Patrick’s Day, the Irish gardens are a great, beautiful place to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day.

Akron St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Parades are a staple of just about any holiday, so enjoy Akron’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade on March 11. It kicks off at noon on Main Street between Cedar and Bowery Street.

Cleveland St. Patrick’s Day Parade
March 17 @ 1:04 p.m.
East 18th and Superior Ave., Cleveland, OH

Who doesn’t love a parade, especially kids? Enjoy one of Ohio’s oldest — it celebrates its 175th year this year — with over 10,000 participants in about 125 units. This year’s parade will have some route changes and will start at Superior Avenue at East 18th Street, ending at the intersection of Rockwell Avenue and Ontario Street.

Enjoy an informative session about all things bagpipes at the Cleveland Library before the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Following the talk, a local bagpiper will perform.
